Upgrading Windows 7/8.1 to Windows 10 from Control Panel in 2024
Windows 7 and 8.1 are both already out of support,
Windows 10 will be out of support next year. So what's the sense of doing this?
If you still have a Windows 7 computer Microsoft said that you cannot anymore
upgrade, but there's a way around this as
shown in my video.
Requirements
- Windows 7 or 8.1 activated
with Volume Licensing (this guide supports Pro, Business, Enterprise only)
- Your OS MUST be up to date
-
WUIsBack
- A pretty decent network speed
- TIME AND PATIENCE
Prepairing to upgrade
- Activate temporarily Windows 7
or 8.1 with Volume Licensing. This works only on Business, Professional and
Enterprise versions of those OS (use MSGuides KMS guides for this)
- Install WUIsBack checking the option "Allow OS Upgrade"
- Check for updates until you get the Windows 10 Upgrade offer. Spend a
minute to check what version it's going to install and to ensure it's the
newer one in the list.
Upgrading to Windows 10
- Start the upgrade from control
panel and go take a little break. It's going to take a while.
- When it finishes prepairing the upgrade, you will be greeted with the
Windows Setup window with a license, just click agree and then close
- Then there will be another window asking to start the update now. SAVE
YOUR WORK, CLOSE EVERY WINDOW, then start the update. Now you can take a
second long break, it's going to do everything by itself.
- After a few restarts you should have logged into your user and get some
questions, just spam a bit of "No" and "Just send basic diagnostic datas"
and the desktop will open
- You might need to reinstall some drivers, in my video I had to reinstall
VMware Tools. Go to your OEM's website and find those for your model.
- Activate Windows back with your legit product key and enjoy
Outro
As I always say, don't believe into everything someone says, even if it's a
business like Microsoft to say that. It's still possible to upgrade to Windows
10 in 2024 for free if you have Windows 7 or 8.1.
